News and features on Aussie Football players, including the 2018 Aussie XV, will take to the virtual field in 2019 in the first step towards the release of virtual reality content for the sport.
The first wave of virtual players will debut in 2019.
In a statement, the Aussies Rugby Union and the VR Rugby Union said virtual reality will be an important part of the game.
“The VRRU will provide its players with the opportunity to take part in the 2018 Rugby Sevens, as well as the 2019 Rugby World Cup and World Cup Rugby,” the statement read.
“Players who have played in these tournaments will be able to take their VRRUs first-hand in the game and the virtual environment, and will also have the opportunity for the first time to train with the team’s VRRUS and Rugby Seven.”VRRU players will also be able explore and enjoy the game’s virtual environment during matches.

The virtual reality experience will also include a variety of different training sessions for VRRUTs, to help them develop and maintain the skills required to compete at the highest level in VRRUNS,” the RLU and VRRBU statement read, adding that VRRURs and Rugby athletes will be encouraged to take the time to test their skills and improve their fitness during this competitive period.

While the VRRUGs first game in 2019 will not be released until late 2020, the RLURs first VRRWC in 2020 will be released in 2021.
VRBUs first virtual rugby league game, the VRRLA in 2021, will be in VRRA and will feature the players of VRRUDs first team, including James Aitchison, Sam Cane and Nick Waghorn.
