Prince William to make his maiden visit to Australia

AUSTRALIA — Prince William has been scheduled to make a major trip to Australia this week.

The Queen of England and Prince Harry are expected to visit the Australian capital of Canberra on Wednesday for a state visit.

The visit will be the first by a British monarch to the country since Queen Elizabeth II made a state trip in 2015.

It will be followed by an official state visit to Perth, which was scheduled for last year.

The Prince is scheduled to be joined by a number of other senior royals including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Defence Minister Marise Payne and the prime minister’s chief of staff, Anthony Albanese.

While many Australian leaders have made the trip for other reasons, Australia’s monarch is expected to have a special role in the government’s handling of the current crisis in Syria.
